Save America Movement Calls for Schumer’s Immediate Resignation as Senate Democratic Leader After Shutdown Surrender
National Organization Condemns the Leadership Failure of Senator Schumer
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Save America Movement (SAM), a national bipartisan movement dedicated to defeating MAGA and Donald Trump, today called for the immediate resignation of Senator Charles Schumer as Leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus, following the chamber’s decision to end the government shutdown without securing protections for millions of Americans who face healthcare premium hikes.
Less than a week after voters across the country rejected MAGA extremism at the ballot box, Senate Democrats surrendered their leverage to reopen the government based on nothing more than a promise — one from Donald Trump’s MAGA Party.
“Chuck Schumer is an appeaser and a weakling. His service as Senate Leader has been a moral disaster and a political failure rivaled only by MAGA itself,” said Steve Schmidt, co-founder of the Save America Movement.
SAM leaders said Schumer’s failure to unite his caucus or stand up to Trump and the Republican Party represents an ongoing pattern of weakness and capitulation that undermines the fight for democracy.
“Donald Trump is Lucy and Chuck Schumer is Charlie Brown — he keeps running toward the same ball and ending up flat on his back,” said Mary Corcoran, Executive Director and Co-Founder for the Save America Movement. “Unless he course corrects now, he’ll take his party down with him. Leadership is measured in moments like this, and he failed this one.”
Donald Trump and his Republican allies were willing to hold the country hostage to get what they wanted — to let 42 million Americans go hungry, to ground the economy, and to punish working Americans. Yet after those same extremists were punished at the ballot box, Schumer gave them what they wanted anyway.
The Save America Movement was founded precisely because both parties have failed to mount the kind of fierce, consistent, and courageous opposition required to defeat Donald Trump’s lawless regime. SAM is on the ground in multiple U.S. cities confronting MAGA extremism, exposing ICE and CBP abuses, challenging authoritarian actors in court, and running hard-hitting media campaigns that Trump and his allies cannot ignore.

To the eight who defected: read the these words, as borrowed and repurposed from the resignation letter of Hagen Scott, then an Asst. US Attorney for the SDNY, who refused to be complicit in dismissing charges against NYC Mayor Adams. Maybe you volunteered or “took one for the team” (which team? not the one for which we voted).
"There is a tradition in public service of resigning in a last-ditch effort to head off a serious mistake. ... Someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, [would have chosen or agreed to do as you did]. But it was never going to be me."
Mr. Scott had a moral choice to make, as did you. Do you lack the integrity to make the choice he made? Or was it that you do not mind choosing to abandon so many of us?
